Chillicothe, South Harrison, Pattonsburg win weekend softball titles

The Chillicothe Lady Hornets continued their strong softball season on Saturday, rolling through four contests to take the title in the 2021 Chillicothe Tournament at Danner Park, with the South Harrison Lady Bulldogs winning the NCMC Nan Carter Tournament at Trenton High School, while the GRC’s Pattonsburg Lady Panthers claimed the championship in the North Andrew Tournament.

At Chillicothe, the Lady Hornets offense was on fire throughout the day, amassing a total of 57 runs in going 4-0, with wins over Princeton (14-8), Oak Grove (8-3), Savannah (22-6), and Macon (15-1).  

Overall, Princeton went a respectable 2-2 in the tournament, with victories over Maryville (13-1) and Penney (13-1).  The Lady Tigers lost to Oak Grove 7-6 and to Chillicothe 14-8.

Other scores from the Chillicothe Tournament were Savannah 9, Putnam County 4; Putnam County 15, Maryville 2; Putnam County 9, Oak Grove 2; and Cameron 2, Putnam County 1.

South Harrison, the champions of the Grand River Conference’s Eastern Division, went 4-0 to win the Nan Carter Tournament at Trenton High School, with victories in pool play over North Platate (5-3), Trenton (8-2), and Milan (4-3).  In a high-scoring championship game, South Harrison took down Platte Valley on Saturday night, 14-6.

Trenton claimed fifth place in the tournament, with a 9-0 win over Milan on Saturday morning, followed by a 8-2 setback to South Harrison.  Trenton lost to North Platte 12-4, dropping the Lady Bulldogs into the fifth place game, where THS beat Brookfield 9-1.

North Platte won third place over Gallatin.  Other final scores from pool play action at Trenton High School were North Platte 10, Milan 1; Gallatin 9, Brookfield 0; and Platte Valley 6, Gallatin 3.

From the North Andrew Tournament, Pattonsburg edged King City in the championship game, 10-9, with North Andrew hammering Stanberry for third place 11-2.  In the fifth place game, Northeast Nodaway shutout Albany, 10-0.  Other final scores were Albany 10, Plattsburg 1; Pattonsburg 4, North Andrew 3; and King City 9, Stanberry 6.

Braymer won a pair of games at the North Harrison Round-Robin, downing North Harrison 10-2 and Worth County 11-1.  Worth County beat North Harrison at Saturday’s event, 13-4.
