Defending GRC West champs roll Princeton, move into Albany title game

The Stanberry Lady Bulldogs continue to steamroll their way through the first couple of weeks of the 2017-2018 season, decisively thumping an upset-minded Princeton squad in Thursday night’s Albany Tournament semifinals, 76-34, moving into Saturday night’s championship game against the Jefferson Lady Eagles.

Stanberry had 18 points from Lily Osborn, 14 each from Madi Sager and Jaden McKune, and 10 points from Peyton Gage, never looking back after jumping out to a 26-6 lead after one quarter.  For Princeton, now 1-2 on the season, Payton Goodin had 13 points while Jaelyn Thomas contributed 10.

The loss drops Princeton into Friday night’s third place tilt with Worth County, in a rematch of the season opener at PHS on Tuesday, November 21st, won by Worth County.  Worth County, in the Albany semifinals, lost to Jefferson in a 44-40 final score on Thursday night.  The Princeton-Worth County third place game is Friday night at 8:30 from AHS.

The Worth County boys downed Stanberry in the late-night semifinal on Thursday from Albany, 41-28, with Jefferson taking the earlier contest against the Pattonsburg Panthers, 54-39.  

The consolation finals are Friday night from Albany, with the King City Lady Wildkats meeting Albany at 5:30, followed by the Princeton boys, looking for back-to-back wins, playing King City at 7 o’clock.

The Pattonsburg boys will draw Stanberry in the third place game to start Saturday’s slate of games, with tip time scheduled for 5:30.  The girls title contest between Stanberry and Jefferson follows at 7 o’clock, with Worth County and Jefferson dueling for the boys title at 8:30.
