Fourth-inning rally sends THS to win over Princeton, tie at top of GRC

High School Softball Local Sports

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs scored seven runs in the bottom of the 4th inning on Tuesday night, rallying from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the Princeton Lady Tigers 7-2, in softball action broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.

Princeton was able to scrape across a pair of early runs to gain an advantage off Trenton starter Avery Clark, with a McKenzie Dunkin single plating Emma Walkup in the first inning, with a base hit by Addy Henke sending Jolena Gibson home in the second.

After escaping a bases loaded jam in the top of the 4th, Trenton opened the bottom half of the inning with a single by Jena Harris and a single by Madi Moore.  Kenzie Lynch, attempting to move both runners into scoring position, laid down a sacrifice bunt, with a throw to third base in attempts to gain a force out instead flying down the left field line for a three-base error.  Harris and Moore scored to tie the game, with a Katelyn Clark double scoring Lynch to give Trenton the lead for good.

The Lady Bulldogs sent 12 batters to the plate by the time the inning was completed, with Kaylor Hodge rocketing a bases loaded, two run double off the center field fence as part of the uprising.

Princeton’s offense, down by 5 runs over the final three innings, was held in check by the combination of Clark and Emma Roberts, with the Lady Tigers shutout with only three additional hits.

The result from THS pushes the Lady Bulldogs mark to 6-3 overall, and 3-0 in the Grand River Conference, tied with Polo atop the Eastern Division standings.  Princeton falls to a record of 2-4 overall, and 1-2 in the GRC.

The Princeton JV won Tuesday night’s finale at Trenton by a score of 7-3.  Mylee Baker had three singles for the Bulldogs, with Ali Cox adding a single and double, and Ashten Johnson a double.
