From Gold to Blue : Trenton native Scott Stevens named new Brookfield football coach

Trenton High School defensive coordinator and head boys track coach Scott Stevens has been named the new head football coach at Brookfield High School, taking the reigns of a powerhouse program along Highway 36 less than a decade after his own graduation from THS.

At BHS, Stevens will replace Nile Thudium, who gave up his football coaching duties in March to accept the opening as Brookfield’s Principal.

In a Wednesday afternoon interview with PAR Broadcast Group Sports Director Tom Johnson, Stevens was asked about the irony of being named coach at one of Trenton’s biggest rivals, particularly during his own playing days at C.F. Russell Stadium:

Stevens will finish the year with the track program at THS, with a fairly quick turn-around to his new job coming by late May:

The dream of being a head coach at the high school level has been with Stevens for many years:

Stevens is a graduate of Trenton High School and Truman State University.  He spent the last three years at Trenton High School, after his first job out of college at Schuyler County High School in Queen City.  At Brookfield, Stevens takes over a Bulldog program that puts great emphasis on winning the annual “Bell Game” against Marceline, in addition to battling strong Clarence Cannon Conference foes the likes of Centralia, Macon, South Shelby, and Monroe City on a yearly basis.  Brookfield will be, along with Trenton, a member of Class 2, District 8 this fall, leaving a potential postseason match-up a possibility between Steven’s “old” and “new” schools.

As mentioned in the interview, the job offer from Brookfield and the acceptance of the offer by Stevens occurred in mid-April.  The news of Stevens move to Brookfield was not made official until his job resignation from Trenton High School was accepted (earlier this week) by the Trenton R-9 Board of Education.
