Gallatin Bulldogs roll to District 8 title, shooting 323 in St. Joseph

The Gallatin Bulldogs continued their dominant spring season on the golf course, beating runner-up Stanberry by 33 strokes (323-356) to take the title in Class 1, District 8 on Tuesday.  In the meet hosted by the Fairview Golf Course in St. Joseph, Mid-Buchanan was third (368), St. Joseph Christian fourth (376), and King City fifth (407).  Other schools involved were Rock Port, Maysville, and Albany.

Gallatin’s Jett Simmons shot one of the best 18 hole scores of his career, with a sizzling round of 67 (5-under par) giving Simmons the medalist honors, seven strokes ahead of runner-up Mitchell Carroll of Stanberry.  Gallatin’s Logan Burns was tied for third (82) with Mid-Buchanan’s Tristen Dye.  Gallatin’s Gabe Cole was sixth (85), with Worth County’s Seth Brown and Stanberry’s Cole Craig tying for 8th place (88), and Gallatin’s Wyatt Bird in tenth place (89).  Gallatin’s Haden Bradford shot 97, finishing 21st.

Gallatin and Stanberry, by virtue of their top two team finishes, will advance their entire squads into Class 1, Section 4 competition.

The Marceline Tigers won the District 7 tournament in Kirksville, shooting 355, with the Scotland County Tigers in the runner-up spot at 398.  The Milan Wildcats shot 448 to finish fifth in the six-team competition.

Scotland County’s Ryan Slaughter earned medalist honors, with an eight-over par score of 79.  Marceline’s Jeffrey Hamilton was second (80), with Marceline’s Jordan Elam 4th (87), and Marceline’s Makenzie Fessler in fifth place (89).  

Advancing to Class 1, Section 4 are Marceline’s Andrew Edgar and Colby Sims (99), Putnam County’s Wyatt Robinson and Milan’s Derrick Sylvester (102), Milan’s Ryley Head (105), Princeton’s Mason Weber (107), Milan’s Kaleb Weaver (112), and Milan’s Dre Morehead (129).

Other scores included Princeton’s Logan Boxley at 134, Tina-Avalon’s Colton Gatson at 139, Tina-Avalon’s Derick Rucker at 140, Mercer’s Cauy Taff at 155, Princeton’s Zane Hickman at 156, Tina-Avalon’s Jacob Ashford at 158, and Princeton’s Aaron Mogler at 163.
