Huggins claims he never resigned, demands WVU job back

Bob Huggins, the former head coach of West Virginia’s basketball team, is disputing his resignation following a drunken-driving arrest and is demanding his job back, according to a letter from his attorney to the university. Huggins’ attorney stated that he never signed a resignation letter and never communicated his resignation to anyone at WVU. The letter warns of a potential lawsuit if Huggins is not reinstated.

Huggins’ resignation was announced by the university after he was charged with driving under the influence on June 16. The university responded to Huggins’ attorney, expressing confusion about the allegations. Huggins’ attorney claims that the university based its announcement on a text message from Huggins’ wife, while the university maintains that Huggins clearly communicated his resignation and retirement in writing.

The university provided a notice sent by Huggins’ wife as evidence of the resignation. Huggins, known for his successful coaching career, was the third-winningest coach in Division I history. The situation has led to some of Huggins’ players entering the transfer portal. Despite the threat of a lawsuit, Huggins’ attorney stated that Huggins is seeking the correction of a breach of his employment agreement rather than litigation.
