Caitlin Clark, the star basketball player from the University of Iowa, was honored as the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year on Monday night. She received the prestigious Honda Cup in a ceremony held at UCLA. Clark’s win marks the second consecutive year that a women’s basketball player has claimed the award, with Aliyah Boston of South Carolina being the recipient in 2022.

Clark, who was also named the AP women’s basketball Player of the Year, played a crucial role in helping Iowa reach its first-ever national championship game in April before falling to LSU. As a junior, she achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the first Division I women’s basketball player to record over 1,000 points and 300 assists in a single season.

The other finalists for the Honda Cup were Logan Eggleston, a senior volleyball player from Texas, and Rose Zhang, a sophomore golfer from Stanford. Clark expressed her appreciation for the unique experience of the awards show, where athletes from various sports come together to celebrate their achievements. She emphasized the importance of supporting women’s sports and encouraged others to tune in, stating that now is the time to witness the limitless potential of women’s athletics.

Clark’s recognition as the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year highlights her exceptional talent and contributions to the game of basketball, while also showcasing the achievements of women athletes across different sports.
