The University of Kentucky will host the University of Missouri in an early season SEC football test on Saturday, September 11th, the second games of the season for both programs, but the first in conference play.   On Sunday, UK coach Mark Stoops announced that Will Levis, an offseason transfer from Penn State, will be the starting quarterback for the Wildcats in 2021, beating out returning talent Joey Gatewood and Beau Allen for the job.

Levis transferred from Penn State to Kentucky in June, with hopes in Lexington that his arrival will ignite a Wildcats offense that was more effective on the ground than in the air in 2020, with 124 passing yards per game representing the lowest production in the Southeastern Conference.  Having lost the quarterback battle to Levis, Gatewood has already announced plans to transfer, representing the second such move for him, as Gatewood transferred from Auburn to Kentucky prior to the 2020 season.

In Happy Valley, Levis played in 15 games over three seasons, with 644 yards through the air, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.  Kentucky’s season opener will be Saturday, September 4th, with the Wildcats welcoming Louisiana-Monroe to Kroger Field.
