High School Softball Local Sports

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs rallied from three separate deficits to defeat the Putnam County Lady Midgets by a score of 7-6 on Tuesday evening from Mark Griffin Memorial Field in Trenton.  In action heard on KTTN FM 92.3, the visitors from Unionville claimed a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, as an outfield error by Trenton kept the inning alive, with Taylor Powell hitting a two-out, 2 run single to give the Lady Midgets the edge.

Trenton left the bases loaded in the 2nd inning, but scraped across a run in the 3rd inning, as a single by Kenzie Lynch drove in Jena Harris.  Putnam County extended the lead to 4-1 in the top of the 4th inning, as a two-out, two-run double into the right-center field gap by Kerbie Willier scores Allise Perkins and Taylor Powell.

The Lady Bulldogs got the game back to even in the bottom half of the 4th, sending seven batters to the plate, with Katelyn Clark, Morgan Foster, and Avery Clark scoring runs.

In the top of the 5th, Trenton head coach Madi Stillwell pulled Clark from the pitching circle, with Emma Roberts going the final three innings.  The Lady Midgets scored two runs to take a 6-4 lead in the top of the 5th, as Avigail Harlan smacked a one-hit triple and scored on a wild pitch.  Jenna Knowles after walking, stole second and third bases, and home plate to push the lead to 2.

Trenton matched Putnam County’s pair of runs in the bottom of the 5th, as Lynch scored on a fielders choice groundout, while Clark scored on a wild pitch.  The bottom of the 6th inning saw the game-winning hit, as Lynch sent Mirena King home from 2nd base on a soft single into short center field.

Roberts shut the door on the Midgets in the top of the 7th, but not without pressure, as Karley Seaton hit a leadoff double.  With Seaton on third and two outs, Roberts notched a caught-looking strikeout to end the game.

The win improves Trenton’s season record to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the Grand River Conference, with Putnam County dropping to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in GRC play.

On Monday night, THS picked up a victory at Albany, winning by a score of 4-2.  Jena Harris was 3 for 3 with and RBI and a run scored.  Madi Moore added a pair of RBI’s, with Avery Clark getting the pitching victory.  The Trenton JV defeated Albany 6-4, with Ella Novak earning the victory.  Freshman Mylee Baker powered the offense with a pair of doubles.
