Lady Bulldogs slow start proves costly in four-set loss to Plattsburg

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs, still working their stamina back from a two-week long COVID-19 related break, had a slow start on Monday night, would find a way to take the third set, but had their comeback hopes dashed in the fourth set, by the Plattsburg Lady Tiger volleyball team.

Plattsburg took the victory over THS 25-6, 25-16, 23-25, 25-17.  Trenton picked up a match high seven kills from senior hitter Evy McCullough, who added three blocks and two digs.  Kenzie Yuille had five digs, Olivia Roberts four kills, Lilly Berti six kills and three digs, and Ava Simpson fourteen assists.

Others on the stat line for the Lady Bulldog varsity were Katie Markell with two digs, Makenzee Epperson two digs and two aces, and Jessa Shipley two digs and two aces.

Trenton will host Penney High of Hamilton on Tuesday night, with the JV match at 5 o’clock, followed by the varsity match.  Wellington-Napoleon will visit the Trenton High School gym on Wednesday night, again with JV competition at 5 o’clock, at the varsity match at 6.  The varsity match will be carried live on KTTN FM 92.3.

The Trenton junior varsity, on Monday night, beat Maysville 25-20, 25-22.  Juliet Schmadeke led THS with seven aces.  Other match stats included Eoie McGowan with three digs, Kaylea Boyle four assists, Abby Simpson two aces, Ally Yoder four aces, two blocks, and three kills, Skylar Gott with a kill and a dig, and Katie Markell with two digs.

The Trenton Middle School football team was shutout by Putnam County on Monday night, 8-0.  The Midgets opened the scoring in the second quarter with a safety, adding a five yard rushing touchdown to reach the final margin in the final quarter.
