Ladyhawks, despite Burrows’ 32, come up short in quarterfinal against East Harrison

The Gilman City girls, playing with only five girls, and down to four on the floor in the final quarter, fought hard on Monday night, but took a 46-43 defeat against the East Harrison Lady Bobcats in the quarterfinals of the Gilman City Invitational Tournament.

Hailey Burrows attempted 29 shots and made eight of those for Gilman City, but did superb work from the free throw line, hitting 15 of 20 tosses for a 32 point night for the Ladyhawks, while Megan Cottrell added 10.  Burrows added five rebounds, four steals, and seven blocked shots.

The victory pushes East Harrison into a 7 o’clock semifinal on Thursday night, while dropping Gilman City to the consolation semifinal round, Wednesday night at 7.

The Pattonsburg girls earned a hard-fought 43-34 win over Northeast Nodaway in Monday’s second girls quarterfinal from the Gilman gym.  The Lady Panthers move into the 4:30 semifinal on Thursday, dropping the Lady ‘Jays to the 4:30 window on Wednesday afternoon.

The Pattonsburg boys, seeded #1, cruised to an opening round win over Tri-County, 83-21, while the #3 seed Northeast Nodaway boys took down North Harrison, 40-29.  The Panthers will play Thursday at 5:45, while the Blue Jays advance to an 8:15 game on Thursday night.

Night #2 of the Gilman City Tournament will open with back-to-back games this afternoon involving the #2 seed Princeton Tigers.  The Lady Tigers take a three-game winning streak into a 4:30 contest against Tri-County, followed by the Princeton boys looking to snap a two-game losing skid, taking on Union Star at 5:45.

In the 7 o’clock game tonight, the #1 seed North Harrison Lady Shamrocks take on Union Star, followed by the Gilman City boys, in the 4 vs. 5 seed game, playing East Harrison at 8:15.
