Lathrop and Lawson continue to surge in Class 2, Milan 11th in Class 1, as latest football poll released

High School Football

The Missouri Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association released its latest high school football poll on Monday morning, with KCI rivals Lathrop and Lawson, nearing a huge matchup between the long-time rivals, both unbeaten and both continuing to ascend in Class 2.  Lathrop, coming off a 78-6 win at Hamilton on Friday night, is up to #3 in the state poll this week, with Lawson, a 55-14 winner over Plattsburg in Week 4, heading into the Cardinals Homecoming game with North Platte ranked #4.

In Class 1, Fayette’s 14-9 victory over Marceline in an early season battle of Lewis and Clark Conference heavyweights saw repercussions in the poll, with the Falcons jumping the Tigers, as Fayette lands at #3 (behind #2 East Buchanan and #1 Westran) while Marceline tumbles two spots to #2.  It sets up another gigantic game in the L&C this Friday night, as #3 Fayette travels to play #1 ranked Westran.  Hamilton’s lopsided loss to Lathrop did not knock the Hornets out of the Top 10, but it did send 2-2 Penney down to #10, just one spot ahead of the unbeaten Milan Wildcats, who have nine votes, just one spot outside of the Top 10.
