Florida State football coach Bobby Bowden, who brought the Seminoles from the ranks of obscurity to two national championships over his time in Tallahassee, died on Sunday morning.  Bowden was 91 years old.

Bowden passed away following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer, with his wife Ann and their six children surrounding him.

In 40 years as a coach at the major college level, Bowden racked up 377 wins, with his greatest successes found at Florida State University, with national championships in 1993 and 1999.  The Seminoles were consistent in battling for national titles, particularly in the late 1980s and into the 90s, with a remarkable 14 straight seasons (1987-2000) finishing in the Top 5 in the final Associated Press poll of the season.

With news of Bowden’s passing spreading on social media on Sunday morning, flowers began to surround the statue of Bobby Bowden located at Florida State University’s Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee.
