Lynch stays hot, shutting down powerhouse Astros in 3-1 KC victory

Local Sports MLB

Kansas City Royals rookie Daniel Lynch spun seven innings of brilliant one-run baseball on Tuesday night, keeping a strong Houston Astros lineup in check, in a 3-1 Royals victory at Kauffman Stadium.

Lynch gave up a two-out RBI single to Carlos Correa in the 3rd inning, but after a potential second run was cut down, with Martin Maldonado thrown out at the plate, Lynch steadied the ship to put up shutout frames in the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th innings.  Josh Staumont worked the 8th, and Jake Brentz worked around a pair of 9th inning walks to pick up his 2nd save of the season.

Framber Valdez took the loss for the Astros, falling to 8-4 on the season.  The Royals big inning, from an offensive standpoint, came in the 6th, as Andrew Benintendi singled and Hunter Dozier was plunked on the toe by a pitch.  Hanser Alberto’s two-run double served as the go-ahead and game-winning RBI’s for Kansas City.

The Royals and Astros have two more games remaining in their four-game set at Kauffman Stadium.

In a move made earlier Tuesday involving Royals minor league prospects, outfielder Dairon Blanco was sent from Class AA Northwest Arkansas to Class AAA Omaha, with Seuly Matias summoned from High-A Quad Cities to Northwest Arkansas to replace Blanco on the Naturals roster.

At Northwest Arkansas, Blanco was hitting .289 in 79 games.  Matias, the #16 prospect in the Royals minor league system per MLB Pipeline, had smacked 11 home runs this season at Quad Cities.
