Maryville sweeps Trenton for district tennis title

The Maryville Spoofhounds, one year removed from losing a district championship test against Chillicothe 5-4, came out strong on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the #2 seed Trenton Lady Bulldogs, 5-0.

Maryville’s Lauren Macali, one of the top players in northwest Missouri, beat Claire Utley in singles, 6-3, 6-1, while teaming with Bethel Orshiso to beat Utley and Lauren Dolan 8-4.  Taybrin Oglesby of Maryville, in singles play, downed Alainey Fair of Trenton 6-1, 6-1.

All three doubles matches went 8-4 in favor of the Spoofhounds, as Marena Mendez and Bailey White beat Samantha Mihalovich and Madi Searcy, while Taybrin Oglesby and Maggie Kempf beat Alainey Fair and Emma Gilham.

Maryville advances to the Class 1 state sectionals next week.
