Mercer boys win district opener, move to semifinal against North Harrison

The Mercer Cardinals outscored the Albany Warriors 19-0 in a dominant first quarter performance on Monday night, and never looked back in a 59-13 victory, in Class 1, District 14 quarterfinal action at North Harrison High School in Eagleville.

Cash Hartley had 18 points and Camden Hartley 14 for Mercer, while Bryer Noe added 10.  

Next up for the top-seeded Cardinals will be the host North Harrison Shamrocks, who took a 53-27 victory over HDC rival Newtown-Harris in Monday night’s quarterfinals.  The Cardinals/Shamrocks semifinal will be played on Wednesday night at 6 o’clock.

The Worth County boys ended Gilman City’s season with a 56-43 come-from-behind victory on Monday night.  The Hawks led at the half, but wiltered in the second half, playing with a roster of only six boys.  Cornelius Peery had 17 points and Mitchell Sievering 10 for Gilman City.  Worth County advances into the Wednesday night (7:30) semifinal to play Pattonsburg, a 65-41 winner over East Harrison.

The girls of Class 1, District 14 open play tonight (Tuesday night), with the top-ranked and top-seeded Mercer Lady Cardinals taking on Newtown-Harris at 4:30, followed by Gilman City going against Pattonsburg at 5:45.  The #2 seeded North Harrison Lady Shamrocks play in the late game (8:15 PM) against Albany, while the #3 seed Worth County Lady Tigers duel with East Harrison at 7 o’clock tonight, all from the North Harrison High School gymnasium in Eagleville.
