MIAA, NJCAA announce basketball plans for 2020-2021 season

The MIAA has announced scheduling plans for the 2020-2021 men’s and women’s basketball seasons, with schedules approved by the MIAA’s CEO Council on Monday, June 15th.  This year’s schedules will consist of 22 games in conference play, 11 home and 11 away.  If needed, dates could be adjusted for the games during an approval process through the conference office in Kansas City.

The scheduled doubleheaders between rivals Northwest Missouri State and Missouri Western will be played in St. Joseph on December 12th and in Maryville on February 6th.  The conference tournament at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, due to COVID-19 concerns, will be shortened to brackets of eight teams each.

The National Junior College Athletic Association has released a plan for the fall and winter months involving its athletic programs, dealing with a COVID-19 world.  For NJCAA basketball teams, including the women’s and men’s programs at North Central Missouri College, practices can begin on September 14th, with live competition allowed starting October 16th.  The association is strongly encouraging member schools to LIMIT competition between Thanksgiving and New Year’s 2021.

For fall sports, practices can begin on August 1st, with the first competition dates on August 20th.
