Milan celebrates double championships, closes down the Den with GRC sweep of South Harrison

Tuesday night’s Grand River Conference basketball games at Milan High School took on a celebratory nature, with the Wildcat teams, already clinched the GRC East titles, cruising to a pair of wins over the South Harrison Bulldogs, in contests heard on Hot Country Z 101.7.  

In the opener, the Lady ‘Cats rolled to a 63-20 triumph, with Cady Pauley and Tahli Gray each scoring 22 points for Milan, now 15-6 overall and 7-0 in GRC play, going into Thursday night’s road test at Linn County.  Milan will play the Worth County Lady Tigers in the 6 o’clock GRC championship game on Saturday night at King City High School (on Hot Country Z 101.7).  South Harrison, dropping to 1-17 on the campaign, had seven points from Emily Miller and six from Kaliska Madison.

The boys game went to Milan by a score of 76-45, with Eddie Gonzalez providing a strong 23 point night for the Wildcats, now 18-3 on the season, and 7-0 in the GRC.  Dre Morehead added 15 points and Hunter Shaw and Ryan Dabney 11 each for Milan.  South Harrison, dropping to 10-11 overall and 2-5 in the GRC, had 19 points from Jed Cornett and 10 from Cale Weller.

With a larger gymnasium scheduled to be completed in time for the 2020-2021 basketball season, Tuesday’s games are expected to be the final varsity contests played in the current Milan facility.
