Milan Lady Wildcats improve to 3-1, win Novinger consolation title

The Milan girls basketball team beat the Newtown-Harris Lady Tigers in the consolation final of the Novinger Basketball Tournament on Friday night, winning 50-19.  The Lady ‘Cats led 32-16 at the half in grabbing their third victory of the season in four games.  Courtney McCollum led the Lady ‘Cats with 13 points, with Evelyn Castro adding 12.  The Milan girls host Schuyler County on Tuesday night, in the 6 o’clock home opener at “The Den”.

The Novinger boys salvaged the consolation honors in their own tournament, downing Atlanta on Friday night, 69-52, while the Brashear Lady Tigers won third place over Atlanta 59-32.

“Championship Saturday” from Novinger High School starts with the boys third place game with Green City meeting LaPlata on Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with the girls title tilt between Green City and Scotland County to follow at 3:30, while the Milan boys battle Scotland County in a title game matching old Tri-Rivers Conference foes, Saturday night at 5 o’clock on KTTN FM 92.3.
