Milan, Putnam County advance to district semifinals at Memphis

The Milan Wildcats slid by the Knox County Eagles on Friday night by a score of 5-4, advancing to the semifinal round of the Class 2, District 5 baseball tournament at Scotland County High School in Memphis.

The win moves Milan into a Monday night challenge with the top-seeded, 15-1 Scotland County Tigers, set for a 5 o’clock first pitch. 

On the bottom half of the bracket on Friday night, the #3 seed Putnam County Midgets hammered Schuyler County 12-4, while the Canton Tigers ended the season of the Mercer Cardinals 13-0.  Putnam County and Canton will meet in Monday’s second semifinal game, set for 6 o’clock.

The Class 2, District 5 championship game will be played on Wednesday night (May 17th) at 5 o’clock in Memphis.

In first round action at Eagleville on Friday night, the Linn County Mustangs shutout Pattonsburg 12-0 while the North Harrison Shamrocks shutout East Harrison 10-0.

The semifinals in Class 1, District 15 will be held on Monday night back in Eagleville, with the #1 seed Green City Gophers taking on Linn County at 5, followed by the #2 seed Northeast Nodaway Blue Jays battling North Harrison at 7.  The district final is Wednesday night at 6:30.

The first-ever district baseball game for the fledgling Trenton Bulldog baseball program will be played today (Saturday), with THS, a #5 seed, taking on the Plattsburg Tigers at 1 o’clock at Mid-Buchanan High School in Faucett.  First-round action begins at 11 o’clock this morning, with the #3 seed Lathrop Mules challenging East Buchanan.

The Plattsburg-Trenton winner plays #1 seed Mid-Buchanan on Monday afternoon at 5, with the Bishop LeBlond Golden Eagles awaiting the Lathrop-East Buchanan survivor for a 7 o’clock semifinal on Monday night.

The district title game in Faucett is Wednesday at 5 PM.
