High School Baseball Local Sports

Trenton High School sophomore Elijah Miller threw six innings of two-hit baseball on Saturday afternoon, leading the Bulldogs to an 11-1 victory over Newtown-Harris/Grundy R-V in game one of a doubleheader at Burleigh Grimes Field.  The visiting Tigers scored a fourth inning run, but it was unearned against the THS right-hander.

Trenton put the contest away early with four runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, adding two more in the 2nd inning, four in the 5th, and a game-ending run in the bottom of the 6th.

With the bat, Miller was 3-for-3 for Trenton, with Aiden Weyer and Brayden Wiggins each adding a pair of base hits.  Weyer, Wiggins, and Graeme Sager each scored a pair of runs for Trenton.

The second game started well for Newtown/Grundy, with three runs in the top of the first inning off of Trenton starter Camden Skipper.  However, the Bulldogs roared back with five runs in the 2nd inning, adding a run in the 3rd, and four more in the 6th in the 10-5 triumph.

Skipper, after giving up the three runs in the 1st, steadied himself with four consecutive shutout innings, striking out 10 batters before his departure.  Weyer pitched the 6th inning and Burgess the 7th for Trenton.  Newtown/Grundy batters struggled to put the bat on the ball, striking out 14 times in the seven inning contest.
