Mizzou freshman guard, St. Louis native McKinney to transfer

Mizzou Basketball

The University of Missouri men’s basketball program has confirmed reports indicating that freshman guard Mario McKinney Jr. will be requesting a transfer, ending a short stint with the Tigers that saw the cousin of former Mizzou standout Jimmy McKinney play in just seven games, averaging a meager 2.6 points per game.

Last weekend, prior to the transfer announcement, Mizzou had indefinitely suspended McKinney from the basketball program for undisclosed reasons.

The decision by McKinney will open one more scholarship for Missouri in the 2020 recruiting cycle.  While struggling in SEC play to a 1-3 start, the Tigers are young, with only Reed Nikko’s graduation expected to lessen the roster in 2020-2021.
