Mizzou hires DLR Group for Memorial Stadium end zone project

The University of Missouri Board of Curators has taken significant steps to propel Mizzou Athletics forward by unanimously approving the hiring of the Kansas City architecture firm DLR Group for the Memorial Stadium Improvements Project. This transformative endeavor aims to modernize and enhance Memorial Stadium, the home of Mizzou Football since 1926, with a budget of $250 million.

The project, designed to preserve the stadium’s rich traditions while embracing a forward-looking vision for Mizzou, will focus on enhancing the fan experience. It includes plans to further enclose the north end of the stadium and introduce a range of new premium seating options along the north edge, along with various upgrades throughout the facility.

The resolution was passed during Thursday’s board meeting at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla. DLR Group has outlined a schedule that anticipates project completion by the beginning of the 2026 college football season, aligning with the centennial anniversary of Mizzou’s inaugural game at Memorial Stadium.

The planned renovations encompass approximately 160,500 square feet of new construction, with a significant portion dedicated to new premium seating areas. The project includes the development of field-level open-air suites, club sections, and cabanas, along with loge seating options and mezzanine club luxury outdoor seats.

DLR Group’s design will respect the historic Rock M Hill while providing seating for up to 2,600 general admission fans. The enhancements aim to offer an unparalleled game-day experience for students, alumni, and fans, while also supporting recruiting efforts and fostering community engagement.

The project includes upgrades to restrooms, concessions, and event spaces throughout the stadium, as well as improvements to the sound system, field lighting, Wi-Fi connectivity, and ribbon boards.  With the potential to increase the stadium’s capacity to nearly 65,000 seats, the renovations reflect Mizzou’s commitment to excellence in athletics.
