Trenton High School senior Madi Moore hit a two-out single in the bottom of the 7th inning, lifting the Lady Bulldogs to a 8-7 win over Albany, in a softball contest heard on Hot Country Z 101.7. Tom Johnson had the call of the game-winner:
Trenton dominated early, with five runs in the first inning, an uprising ignited by a double by leadoff hitter Kaylor Hodge. She scored on a Mirena King single, with King stealing second and scoring on a Jena Harris double. Harris came around to score on a wild pitch.
With two outs, Emma Roberts singled, with Kaegan Croy serving as a courtesy runner. Avery Clark was the seventh batter of the inning for THS:
In the bottom of the second, Trenton added to the lead, with King on first base and one out, Harris stepped in:
The lead looked comfortable for THS at 7-0, but Albany was beginning to stir. After stranding five runners through three innings, the Lady Warriors struck in the fourth. Five runs scored, as Albany had three hits, with Trenton contributing two errors, as the Bulldog lead was cut to 7-5.
A costly throwing error in the sixth inning with a runners on the corners and one out send both runners home, tying the game at 7.
Avery Clark returned to the circle for THS in the top of the sixth inning, and despite walking back-to-back batters to open the seventh, shut down Albany, giving Trenton the opportunity to win the game in the home 7th.
Trenton will open GRC play on Tuesday night with a 5:30 game at Putnam County (KGOZ FM 101.7), with Albany staying on the road, playing at rival Stanberry in the GRW opener, also at 5:30. Both the Bulldogs and Warriors had weekend tournament appearances rained out, with the Albany “Bill Hill Memorial” Tournament washed out, in addition to the 15-team Cameron Tournament.
