Morales, Moylan named Royals player, pitcher of the month for September

MLB

The Kansas City Royals announced that designated hitter/first baseman Kendrys Morales has been named Royals Majestic Player of the Month and right-handed pitcher Peter Moylan is the Pitcher of the Month for September. The player award is determined by a combined fan and media vote, with the pitcher award voted on by local media.

Morales hit .333 with eight homers and 30 RBI, which led the Majors, during the month of September.  His RBI total was two shy of matching the Royals franchise record for a single month.  He also tied for eighth in the American League with eight home runs, while his .608 slugging percentage ranked 12th.  He was named AL Player of the Week on September 11, after hitting four homers and driving in 13 runs the previous week, which included his third multi-homer game of the season on September 6 in Minnesota.  This marked his third Royals Player of the Month Award, also earning the honor in June of this year and September/October in 2015.

Moylan made a team-best 14 appearances during the month, holding the opposition to a .195 batting average (8-for-41), while posting a 3.27 ERA (4 ER in 11.0 IP).  He allowed just one earned run over his last 10 appearances (9.0 IP).  He also stranded 15 of the 16 inherited runners he faced during the month.  Moylan appeared in five-straight games for the second time this season, September 23-28, one shy of the franchise record held by Ted Abernathy (1970).  This is the first time Moylan has received a Royals’ monthly award.

Fans have the opportunity to vote for the Royals Majestic Player of the Month all season long by visiting area Kansas Sampler and Rally House locations or the Royals Majestic Team Store at Kauffman Stadium. Participating fans will automatically be entered to win a VIP Experience package which includes an apparel prize pack, tickets to a Royals game and the opportunity to present the Player of the Month award.
