NCMC opens ’22 home schedule with Saturday split

The North Central Missouri College men’s basketball team rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to defeat the visiting John Wood Trail Blazers, 85-73 at the Ketcham Community Center.

In action broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7, forward Kolten Griffin led the Pirates with 25 points, with Mack Anderson adding 18, Isaiah Ervin 12, and Sterling DeSha 10 points.  The win improves the Pirates record to 6-7.

John Wood, failing in its attempt to sweep the season series with North Central, falls to 10-7.  Jarvis Jennings led the Blazers with 18 points, with Garrett Snow adding 16 points, while Brandon Kracht and Ja’Veon Taylor each contributed 12.

The Pirate men have added a game to the 2021-2022 regular season schedule, traveling to Kansas City Kansas Community College on Monday night for a 6 o’clock game against the Blue Devils.

The Lady Pirates, in Saturday afternoon’s opener, failed to keep momentum from the program’s mid-week victory at Fort Scott Community College, falling to the Highland Community College Scotties 73-61.

NCMC’s ladies struggled early, giving up 23 first quarter points to the hot-shooting Highland squad, trailing 23-12 after one quarter and 43-30 at the half.  The lead stayed at least at a nine-point bulge through the entire second half.

Emily Dogbatse led HCC (10-5) with 21 points, while Kenadi Rising contributed 13 and Courtney Davis 11 points to the winning cause.

NCMC (11-4) had 16 points from Nora Ford, 11 points from Angel Wiggins, and 10 points from Maci Moore.

The next game broadcasts on Hot Country Z 101.7 for the Lady Pirates and Pirates will be on Saturday, January 15th from Metropolitan (Penn Valley) Community College in Kansas City, with the 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock games from the A. Fred Pohlman Fieldhouse in the Region XVI openers for North Central.
