NCMC’s Steel advances to JUCO national golf tournament

North Central Missouri College golf will be represented at the NJCAA Division Two national tournament by Kyle Steel.  The tournament will be contested at the Twin Hills Country Club in Joplin, Missouri from Tuesday, May 17th through Friday, May 20th.  Steel won a playoff for a national tourney berth after shooting a 54-hole, three day score of 219 at the D-2 JUCO South Central District Championship, played at the Auburn Hills Golf Course in Hesston, Kansas on Monday, May 2nd and Tuesday, May 3rd.

Steel shot matching rounds of 74 on Monday, and improved his score to a one-under 71 on Tuesday, matching him with Mason Sebrant of Murray State College in a sudden death playoff for the last spot available for nationals.  In four holes, Steel outshot Sebrant, becoming the first North Central Missouri College golfer to qualify for the national tournament since 2019.  Steel also earned 1st Team All-Region and All-District recognition for his level of play.

Team-wise, Tyler Junior College (Texas) and Mineral Area College (Missouri) earned the two available spots for the national tournament.

Cam Bates and Austin Lasher also had a solid showing for NCMC posting 54-hole scores of 244 and 245 respectively. Bates finished in a tie for 23rd place after posting scores of 82-82-80 and Lasher, shooting 81-83-81, placed 25th at the conclusion of the event. “

Steel, Bates and Lasher will all be returning to NCMC for the 2022-23 school year.
