Pandemic cancels MINK League for ’20 season

MINK League Commissioner Ron Rodriguez has announced the complete cancellation of the season for 2020, saying the decision was made to prioritize player, staff, and guest safety in the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Rodriguez expressed disappointment at the decision, noting that the MINK League is “joining many other leagues across the U.S. affected by the virus and the fallout”.

MINK League stands for the historical backbone of the summer wood-bat collegiate baseball league, spanning across Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas.  However, the look of the league has changed significantly with subtractions and additions to the league.

Currently, there is not a MINK League franchise in either Nebraska or Kansas, with the nine teams in the league comprised of the Chillicothe Mudcats, Clarinda (Iowa) A’s, Clinton Creatures, Des Moines Peak Prospects, Jefferson City Renegades, Joplin Outlaws, Nevada Griffons, Sedalia Bombers, and St. Joseph Mustangs.

League officials anticipate the competition returning for the summer 2021 season, and invite the public to follow the league by visiting www.minkleaguebaseball.com, and by following the MINK League on Twitter and Facebook.
