Phillies rally in 10th to grab 5-3 victory in St. Louis

MLB

The Philadelphia Phillies secured a 5-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in a Monday night battle at Busch Stadium.  In the 10th inning. Alec Bohm’s RBI double off Ryan Helsley drove in Cristian Pache, with Bryson Stott adding an insurance run with a sacrifice fly.

Gregory Soto sealed the win with his first save, but not before the Cardinals staged a late-game rally in the ninth inning against Jeff Hoffman. Jordan Walker’s sacrifice fly and Masyn Winn’s single leveled the score at 3-3, showcasing the Cardinals’ fighting spirit.

Despite the Cardinals’ comeback, Phillies starter Spencer Turnbull delivered another stellar performance, pitching six scoreless innings and striking out six batters. Turnbull’s solid pitching helped maintain the Phillies’ lead until the late stages of the game.

The Phillies’ offense came alive in the fifth inning, scoring two runs off four singles, with Johan Rojas and Trea Turner delivering crucial hits. Rojas, who made a pivotal catch earlier in the game, continued his strong performance with three hits.

Iván Herrera’s solo home run in the seventh inning narrowed the gap for the Cardinals, but Brandon Marsh’s homer in the ninth extended the Phillies’ lead once again.

In the upcoming games, RHP Sonny Gray will make his debut for the Cardinals against RHP Zack Wheeler and the Phillies. Gray’s return from injury adds anticipation to the matchup, while Wheeler aims to continue his success against St. Louis.

The Kansas City Royals had Monday night off, and will begin a series at Kauffman Stadium with the Houston Astros tonight (Tuesday night).
