Polo’s 7 run inning dooms Trenton’s upset hopes in Thursday night softball action

High School Softball Local Sports

The Polo Lady Panther broke open a tight game with seven runs in the bottom of the 4th inning, with PHS overtaking Trenton in the Grand River Conference standings in a 9-1 Thursday night triumph.  Polo right-hander Hanna Vaught picked up her 500th career strikeout in the win.

Trenton’s only run scored in the top of the 5th inning, with Kaegan Croy scoring and Kaylor Hodge earning the RBI.  Hodge had three runs in the game for Trenton, as the Bulldogs actually outhit Polo 8-7.

The loss gives Trenton three defeats in the GRC, to two for Polo.  Both teams have losses to GRC-leading South Harrison, with Thursday proving to be a good bounce-back for Polo off of Tuesday’s loss at Putnam County, but extending Trenton’s frustration after a home loss Tuesday to South Harrison.  The Lady Bulldogs did open the week with the victory, 11-4 on Monday at Penney High School of Hamilton.
