Powerful Spoofhounds end Penney’s season, advance to sectional showdown with Lawson

The Maryville Spoofhounds, behind 21 points from Eli Dowis, 18 from John Zimmerman, and 14 added by Jackson Golightly, defeated the Penney Hornets 67-60 on Saturday afternoon in the boys championship game of Class 3, District 16 at Lathrop High School.

While the game was competitive throughout, the second quarter provided the surge need by Maryville get grab the victory, as the ‘Hounds outscored the Hornets 25-10 over that eight minute span, rallying from a 10-4 deficit after one quarter.

Jaran Richman had 28 points in his final game in a Hamilton uniform, while LaTroy Harper finished his junior season with a 21 point effort for Penney, a program coming off a semifinal rally over Trenton less than 48 hours earlier.

Maryville will play District 15 champion Lawson in the Class 3 sectionals on Wednesday night at 6 o’clock at Excelsior Springs High School.  The Cardinals improved to 25-2 on the season with a 58-40 win over Higginsville on Friday night.  The Spoofhounds head into the playoffs with a record of 23-4.
