On Friday night, the Grand River Conference football season opens in Unionville, as the Trenton Bulldogs and Putnam County Midgets each look for their elusive first victory of the season. While victory on the field will be important for the two teams involved, the Midgets Athletic Department has announced a project for an even more important cause, to help those in need from the ongoing flooding events in and around Houston, Texas.
Putnam County Athletic Director Andrew Garber has contacted Trenton Athletic Director Wes Croy, with a message to Bulldog fans that all proceeds raised from Friday night’s game at Putnam County Stadium will go directly to the American Red Cross, to help in efforts to assist those in need across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana.
Harvey has hit Texas with a devastating blow, first with damage done by hurricane force winds and rain north of Corpus Christi over the weekend, and now, with the stalling of the storm, flooding rains, some expected to be upwards of four feet over five days, paralyzing the Houston metropolitan area.
For the football game between the Bulldogs and the Midgets, Grand River Conference passes will be honored, however, anyone with a pass can choose donate to the fundraising effort to the level that they wish.
Friday’s game from Unionville is set for a 7 o’clock kickoff, with coverage on Hot Country Z 101.7.
