Chillicothe High School "Hornets" in Missouri

Red hot Hornets surge into districts with run-rule shutout of rival Trenton

High School Softball Local Sports

The Chillicothe Lady Hornets used their speed, contact, and pitching to overwhelm Trenton on Monday night, with Chillicothe grabbing a 14-0, five inning victory at Danner Park, in action broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.

The Lady Hornets, winners of 14 of their last 15 games, scored three runs in the first inning, and two more in the 2nd, before putting any thoughts of a Trenton comeback to bed with eight runs in the 3rd.  A single tally in the 4th finished the Hornets scoring, with a scoreless inning for THS in the fifth ending the game.

Trenton hits the ball well against Chillicothe starter Mollie Ellis, getting nine hits in the loss, but six errors were committed by the Lady Buldogs in defeat.

Trenton will play in a district tournament in Marceline this week, with Chillicothe hosting Benton, with a district tournament coming to Danner Park, including MEC champion Chillicothe, NCMC champion Kirksville, and CCC champion Macon.
