Red-hot Ladycats look sharp in GRC home win against Maysville

High School Softball

The Milan Lady Wildcats, 2-1 in the Grand River Conference heading into Thursday night’s home date with Maysville, knew that protecting their home field would give Milan a chance to battle Trenton with first place on the line next week.

Milan is halfway to their goal of a 4-1 conference mark, after an impressive 11-1 victory over the Lady Wolverines at Legion Field.  Senior Kenna Michael set the pace for the Ladycats from the rubber, pitching all five innings, giving up four hits and striking out four batters.

Michael and Maddie Schoonover both went 3 for 3 for Milan, combining for three runs, 7 RBI’s, and 4 doubles.  Breanna Sawyer had a double and trip in four at bats, with Sam DeRyke adding a hit and a run scored, with Erin Sayre 2 for 3.

Milan, one game behind GRC pace-setters Putnam County and Trenton, will host the South Harrison Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday at 5:30, before a trip to Trenton on Thursday (September 8th) at 5:30.  The Thursday game will be carried live on KTTN FM 92.3.

In the other GRC East game played on Thursday, Gallatin slipped by Princeton by a score of 3-2.  Putnam County and Polo were postponed due to wet field conditions.  That game will be made up on Monday, September 12th.

In the GRC West, Braymer rolled past Worth County, 10-3; North Andrew claimed a 4-1 win over Pattonsburg, and Albany took down King City 4-1.
