Royals losing skid hits four in listless loss in Chicago

Local Sports MLB

The Kansas City Royals offense struggled with only one hit in six scoreless innings against Chicago starter Dylan Cease, in a 7-1 loss to the White Sox on Tuesday night.

Cease improved to 8-6 in the 103 pitch performance, walking two batters and allowing only a leadoff single in the third inning to Edward Olivares.  Michael Kopech, Garrett Crochet, and Ryan Tepera each pitched one inning out of the Chicago bullpen, with Kopech allowing Ryan O’Hearn’s sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.

Kris Bubic took the tough-luck loss for Kansas City, falling to 3-5 despite allowing only three hits and three hits over six innings.

In St. Louis, Atlanta jumped on veteran lefty Jon Lester in his Cardinals debut, putting up five first inning runs in a 6-1 Braves win at Busch Stadium.  Jorge Soler hammered a first-inning two-run homer to open the scoring for Atlanta, his first homer for the team since being traded by Kansas City last week.

Max Fried went six innings for the Braves, allowing just four hits in improving to 8-7.  St. Louis, losers of five of their last nine games, is now 53-53 on the season.
