Royals open September with bullpen call-ups; Wang to DL, and Colon optioned to Omaha

The Kansas City Royals, on Wednesday morning, recalled left-handed pitcher Scott Alexander and right-handed pitcher Brooks Pounders from Class AAA Omaha.  Alexander, 27, is in his second stint with the Royals this season, making nine appearances in May and June, including a scoreless inning at New York (Yankee Stadium) in his 2016 debut.  With the Storm Chasers this season, Alexander is 2-0 with a save and a 3.00 ERA.

Pounders, 25, is in his third stint with Kansas City, where he has pitched in four games, including 2/3 of an inning at Texas on July 30th,.  He is 5-3 with Omaha, sporting a 3.14 ERA, firing 90 strikeouts in 80 innings.

In corresponding roster moves, the Royals optioned infielder Christian Colon to Omaha and placed right-handed pitcher Chien-Ming Wang on the 15-day disabled list (right biceps tendinitis).
