MLB

The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have recalled left-handed pitcher Scott Alexander and selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Peter Moylan from Omaha (AAA).  The club has placed right-handed pitchers Chris Young (right forearm strain) and Kris Medlen (right rotator cuff inflammation) on the 15-day disabled list.

Young’s D.L. stint is retroactive to Tuesday (May 10), making him eligible for reinstatement on May 25.  Medlen can be reinstated on May 26.  Moylan is added to the 40-man roster in place of infielder Raul Mondesi, who began serving a 50-game suspension on Tuesday.

Alexander, 26, has made nine appearances for the Storm Chasers this season, going 1-0 with a save and a 2.57 ERA (4 ER in 14.0 IP).  Moylan, 38, signed a minor league deal with the Royals on January 27, and is 1-1 with five saves and a 0.71 ERA in 12 relief appearances at Omaha this season.
