University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban has signed a eight-year contract extension that will keep him in Tuscaloosa for the next eight seasons, for a price of $84.8 million.  The announcement of the deal, officially approved by the Board of Trustees compensation committee on Monday.

Since his arrival at Alabama after two failed seasons with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, Saban has brought the Crimson Tide program back to the level (and maybe even beyond) set by the legendary Paul “Bear” Bryant, winning six national championships.

Saban made $9.3 million over the course of the 2020 season, making him already the highest-paid coach in college football, citing USA Today’s database of college football salaries.  The latest national title won by Saban and Alabama, coming last January, broke a tie with Bryant with it being Saban’s seventh time finishing on top of the college football world.  He turns 70 years old on October 31st of this year.
