Colorado football coach Deion Sanders recently underwent surgery to repair blood clots in his left leg. The surgery was successful, and Sanders is now in recovery. Sanders and his fiancée, Tracey Edmonds, shared updates on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the prayers and support.

In an Instagram video, Sanders informed his children that he had a large blood clot in his thigh and additional ones below his knee, which were successfully removed during the surgery. He mentioned having another blood clot in his right leg that will be addressed soon. Sanders anticipated being released from the hospital on Sunday.

Sanders had previously announced the need for surgery to address the blood clots in his leg. The procedure aimed to improve blood flow so that Sanders can undergo further surgeries to address hammer toes and a foot dislocation. He clarified that there had been no discussions of amputation.

The news of the surgery emerged just before Sanders is scheduled to coach his first game for the University of Colorado Buffaloes. A video posted on Thee Pregame Show YouTube channel showed Sanders meeting with CU head athletic trainer Lauren Askevold and medical professionals, who highlighted circulation issues in his leg. Sanders discussed his lack of sensation in the bottom of his foot and the risks associated with future procedures and potential complications.

In October 2021, Sanders had his left big toe and second toe amputated due to blood clots that impeded blood flow to his foot. He spent 23 days in the hospital and missed three games while coaching at Jackson State University. Upon his return, Sanders coached from an electric wheelchair.
