Local Sports Soccer

Sporting Kansas City and Chicago Fire will face off in an MLS regular-season match on Saturday, June 24 at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT. The match will be broadcast on Apple TV for free on MLS Season Pass,.

Sporting Kansas City, led by manager Peter Vermes, is coming off a 2-2 draw against the LA Galaxy, where Alan Pulido scored both goals, including a 91st-minute penalty. Pulido has been in exceptional form, scoring in four consecutive league matches and leading all MLS players with six goals and seven goal contributions in the month of June. He has the opportunity to become the first player in club history to score in seven games in a single month.

The Chicago Fire, under interim head coach Frank Klopas, secured a 2-1 win against the Portland Timbers in their previous match, with Kei Kamara scoring the game-winning goal. Kamara, a former Sporting KC player, is closing in on tying Landon Donovan for the second-most goals in MLS history. The Fire will also have the return of defender Miguel Navarro and playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri from international duty.

Sporting Kansas City has been in good form recently, accumulating the most wins, points, and goals in the Western Conference since May. They are currently one point away from a playoff position. Chicago, on the other hand, sits below the playoff line in the Eastern Conference and aims to secure a postseason berth after 12 seasons without a playoff win.

In head-to-head matchups, Sporting KC has dominated at Children’s Mercy Park, winning six straight games against the Fire since 2014 and remaining unbeaten in nine consecutive regular-season matches since 2012. The two teams have a rich history, with Kansas City defeating Chicago in the 2000 MLS Cup and 2004 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup finals.
