Stanberry sweeps semifinal tests, moves into Albany Tournament championship games

The Stanberry High School basketball teams picked up Thursday night victories, as the Lady Bulldogs beat South Harrison 54-50, and the state-ranked SHS boys beating King City 55-46, in the semifinal round of the Albany Invitational Basketball Tournament.

The win for the Stanberry girls, the #2 seed in the tournament, moves the Lady Bulldogs into the championship game against #1 seed Jefferson on Saturday night at 7 o’clock.  Jefferson rolled in the semifinals, routing #4 seed King City 47-21.

The King City vs. South Harrison girls third place game is at 8:30 Friday night, while Princeton and Worth County will play in the girls consolation final at 5:30 Friday night at the Albany High School gymnasium.

On the boys side, Worth County pulled off the upset of the night, as the Tigers took down #2 seed Jefferson 52-50.  Worth County will play the Stanberry Bulldogs in the Saturday night boys championship game at 8:30.  King City will play Jefferson in the boys third place game (Saturday at 5:30 PM), while South Harrison and Pattonsburg meet for the boys consolation hardware on Friday night at 7 o’clock.
