Stanberry’s Gage joins Gallatin’s Lady Bulldogs as GRC golf champions

The Grand River Conference held its annual girls golf championships on Monday at the Veterans Course in Cameron, with Stanberry High School’s Allie Gage, shooting an 18-hole score of 90, taking the individual championship by ten strokes over runner-up Hannah McElvain of Worth County.  In a very close team chase, Gallatin’s total of 483 tipped the second-place score of Albany by one stroke, with the Lady Warriors shooting 484.  Trenton High School had two of the top four scores individually, and with a team score of 499, finished third.

For Trenton, Maci Henson shot 105 for third place and Oakley Madden 107 for fourth place.  Gallatin’s top score came from Elle Copple at 112, good for a 5th place tie with Kayce Messner of Albany.  Gallatin’s Jessica Hart was 7th (114), Hayley Sweiger of Maysville 8th (115), Lilly Wilson of Albany 9th (116), and Gracie Wilson of Albany 10th place (122).

Trenton’s Josie Chumbley shot 142 and Mari Atup 145.  For Gallatin, Jenna Rains was at 125, Jenni Teel at 132, and Claire Hemry at 133.

At the 2019 MEC Championships in St. Joseph, Chillicothe junior Hallie Jones, with a round of 89, won the individual conference championship for the Lady Hornets.  Maryville’s Emily Long finished second at 90.
