Strahm, Karns likely out for 2017 season

MLB

The Kansas City Royals pitching depth took a hit on Friday night, with the news that left-hander Matt Strahm will miss the remainder of the 2017 season, while it appears likely that right-hander Nate Karns is facing the same scenario.

The 25-year old Strahm underwent season-ending surgery on Friday to repair a torn patellar tendon in left knee.  He had left a game with the Minnesota Twins on Saturday, July 1st with sore soreness, and was placed on the disabled list shortly thereafter.

Karns, acquired from Seattle in the Jarrod Dyson trade this off-season, has been showing signs of “thoracic outlet syndrome”, an affliction that has hit former Royals Luke Hochevar, Dillon Gee, and Chris Young, as most recently, Royals prospect Kyle Zimmer.  Karns has been on the disabled list since mid-May with “forearm soreness”.  He is expected to meet with a specialist in St. Louis soon for further examination of the injury.  He is currently on the 60-day disabled list.
