THS volleyball tunes up for season with Carrollton jamboree

Local Sports Volleyball

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs traveled to Carrollton High School on Tuesday night, playing seven total sets of volleyball action against the Lady Trojans, in addition to the visiting Santa Fe Chiefs and Marshall Owls.

With sets played to the first to 15 points, the Lady Bulldogs claimed a total of two sets while dropping five.  Carrollton defeated THS in the opening match of the night; 15-11, 15-9, 10-15; with Trenton splitting with Marshall, struggling to a 15-3 setback in the opening set, before rebounding with a 15-10 edge.  Against Santa Fe, the Lady Bulldogs finished the night in struggling fashion, falling by scores of 15-7 and 15-3.

Second-year Bulldog coach Brad Ewald considered the night a building block for THS, saying that the girls “faired alright”.  Coach Ewald focused on the Bulldogs “serve and receive” game, indicating that when that aspect was good, Trenton rallied with their opponents well, but the overall game slumped as the receiving and serving did the same.  At times, Ewald said the Bulldogs made some aggressive front row plays to “control the tempo” with “nice passing”.

Trenton will open the season with four straight home matches, starting tonight (Monday night, August 29th) against Cameron, with Brookfield traveling to Trenton for a JV and varsity doubleheader on Tuesday, August 30th.
