Top St. Louis hoops talent verbals with Ohio State

High School Basketball NCAA

The Ohio State Buckeyes have hit Missouri for their first commitment in the basketball class of 2018, as Whitfield High School guard Torrence Watson, a 6’4′ 175 pound, four-star prospect, announced via Twitter his decision to join the Big 10 school.

Losing Watson to an out-of-state school could be considered the first major recruiting “miss” in the St. Louis area for Mizzou coach Cuonzo Martin, as the Tigers had been in Watson’s top 10.  Ohio State has a new coach as well in Chris Holtmann, who took the OSU job this spring after recruiting Watson hard at his old school, Butler University in Indianapolis.

Watson, who visited the Ohio State campus in late June, is ranked the #100 overall prospect in the country by 247Sports.com for the Class of 2018. As a junior for the Whitfield Warriors, Watson averaged 29 points per game.  He picked Ohio State over Missouri, Vanderbilt and St. Louis. He also had offers from Butler, Creighton, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas State, UNLV, West Virginia and others.
