Trenton Blue Jays storm through Chillicothe, win weekend tournament

The Trenton Blue Jays won three games over the weekend, winning the annual Chillicothe American Legion Tournament at Shaffer Park.  On Friday night, the Blue Jays doubled up the host Chillicothe Cardinals by a score of 10-5.  Aaron Buford pitched six innings, giving up five runs (3 earned), on seven hits and 10 strikeouts.

The ‘Jays offense had a productive night, cracking out 16 hits in scoring 10 runs.  Hadley Williams, Derek Hussey, Aaron Buford, and Trae Brownell all had three hits, with Brownell driving in five runs.  

In Saturday’s second game, Wyatt Thomas pitched six innings, allowing 2 runs (none earned) and five hits with five punchouts, in a 4-2 Blue Jay victory over Moberly.

Trae Brownell struck out the side in the 7th inning for the save.

Lane Widner had two hits and two RBI’s to pace the Trenton offense.  Hussey and Buford each had an RBI.

On Sunday, Trenton rode the pitching brilliance of Trae Brownell to a 8-0 victory over the North Central Falcons.  Brownell pitched six shutout innings, allowing only two hits and striking out nine.

Hussey and Brownell both drove in two runs for Trenton, now 3-0 in district play and 8-1 overall.

The Blue Jays return home to Burleigh Grimes Field to host Chillicothe on Wednesday night, in a 6 o’clock first pitch.  Those games were moved from their original date of Tuesday, May 15th.
