Trenton tennis sweeps through St. Joseph, improving to 8-3

The Trenton Bulldog boys tennis team improved to 8-3 on the spring season, defeating Lafayette High School and Benton High School in a pair of Tuesday afternoon duels at Noyes Courts in St. Joseph.

Against Lafayette, Trenton emerged victorious by a score of 7-2, with Bradyn Sager rolling to an 8-1 win at #1 singles against Eric Nguyen.  Isaac Dixon had a dominant 8-2 win over Jackson Spinner at #3 singles, with Ryeland Kirk, at #6 singles, downing Zackary Lynch 8-2.  Two of the singles matches between the Bulldogs and Fighting Irish went to 9-7 final scores, with Trenton’s Victor Markell winning over Owen Estes at #2 singles, while Lafayette’s Adrian Parmenter defeated Henry Lasley at #5 singles.  In the #4 singles match, Lafayette’s Max Kretzer downed Jake Horton by an 8-3 final score.

In doubles competition, Trenton swept all three matches against Lafayette, with Sager and White defeating Nguyen and Skipper 8-5, Markell and Dixon rolling to an 8-5 win over Estes and Kretzer, with Horton and Lasley shutting out Parmenter and Lynch 8-love.

The match with the Benton Cardinals was much more competitive, with Trenton escaping with a 5-4 victory over St. Joseph’s “South Siders”.  In the #1 singles match, Bradyn Sager defeated Ridge Stagner 8-3, with Isaac Dixon winning the #3 singles match over Lawsen Simpson 8-1, while Jacob White downed Christian Stewart 8-6.  Benton won three singles duels, with Sutton Redemer doubling up Victor Markell 8-4 (#2 singles), Carter Conroy over Jake Horton 8-2 (#5 singles), and Koby Groce over Henry Lasley 8-4 (#5 singles).

The doubles matches were close and highly entertaining, with Trenton’s duo of Sager and White defeating Redemer and Stewart 8-4, while Benton’s Stagner and Groce pulled out an 8-6 #2 doubles win over Markell and Dixon.  In the pivotal #3 doubles match, Trenton’s Jake Horton and Henry Lasley defeated Simpson and Conroy 9-7.
