The Trenton Bulldogs, Brookfield Bulldogs, and Richmond Spartans wrestled in a non-conference triangular on Tuesday, hosted by Richmond.  The Brookfield Bulldogs won the head-to-head dual with Trenton by a score of 36-29, with Richmond claiming a 49-9 victory against THS.

Against Brookfield, Trenton Coach Charlie Bacon said his team ended up “one win shy of the team victory”, as BHS finished seven points up on the Bulldogs.  Brendon Johnson and Daniel Rodriguez took forfeit wins for Trenton, while James Jury and Carson Wilkerson took forfeit wins for Brookfield.

At heavyweight, Brookfield’s Brooks Baker pinned Trenton’s Cole Little (1:35), while Cody Howerton of Brookfield, wrestling at 132 pounds, pinned Trenton’s Zane Rottman at the 5:41 mark.  There was a double forfeit at 138 pounds.

At 145 pounds, Trenton’s Eric Lovett grabbed a 5-2 win over Wade Graves of Brookfield, while at 152 pounds, Brookfield’s Khalil Walker pinned Trenton’s Nick Wattenbarger at 1 minute and 39 seconds.

Drew Rorebeck of Trenton took a technical fall victory, by 15-0 final, at 2:08 of his match against Brandon Delana at 160 pounds.  At 182 pounds, Jadan Whitney picked up a win for the “Black ‘n Gold”, by 12-8 decision over Brent Downey.  Richard Menconi of Brookfield pinned Mark Trump of Trenton in 1:17 at 195 pounds, while Mason Owen of THS pinned Lane Thudium of BHS in 28 seconds, wrestling at 220 pounds.

Against Richmond, the duel with the Bulldogs and Spartans opened with a double forfeit at 113 pounds.  Trenton grabbed three victories against RHS, all three by points decision.

At 126 pounds, Danny Rodriguez claimed a 6-2 decision over Logan Claypole, wrestling what Coach Bacon called “one of his best matches as a Bulldog”.  At 160 pounds, Drew Rorebeck finished a perfect 2-0 night with a 6-5 decision over Kenton Delana, while at 220 pounds, Mason Owen crafted a 2-0 victory over Bo Huffman.

In comments provided to KTTN/KGOZ, Coach Bacon exclaimed, “We lost 2 duals against 2 very tough teams tonight, but we looked better than we have been.  Against Brookfield we really just lost by a match. I thought we matched up well with Brookfield, allowing us to score the points we did. We won 4 head to head matches against them, while Brookfield won 4 head to head as well. Against Richmond we had 3 head to head wins as they had 7. Richmond is a tough team but we did a good job of staying off our backs and not getting pinned. Danny Rodriguez, Drew Rorebeck, and Mason Owen all looked really good in their wins against a tough district opponent. Eric Lovett lost a close match and ended up defeated, but wrestled really well all the way to the last whistle. Jadan Whitney also lost an 8 to 2 decision over the 4th ranked kid in the state. Drew Rorebeck and Mason Owen looked great and went undefeated on the night.  It sounds a little strange, but we have wrestled worse in duals we’ve won. We just need to keep working and heading in the right direction.”

Trenton will wrestle in the Brookfield Tournament on Saturday, starting at 9:30 in the morning.
