Trenton wrestlers travel to Marceline for Saturday’s Tiger Mat Classic

Local Sports Wrestling

Problems with a computerized national system for running wrestling tournaments led to the “Tiger Mat Classic” at Marceline High School being delayed and shortened on Saturday.  No local paper system was used.  Here is Trenton boys wrestling coach Charlie Bacon:

Brackets with smaller number of entries in a particular weight class were finished.  However, in others, just four of the scheduled six rounds were wrestled.

Top Trenton results in the “A” Pool were Jacob White at 106 pounds and Brayden Hughs at 138, both placing runner-up in their classes with records of 2-1.

Mason Rongey was 2-2 at 144 pounds, a weight class that did not finish all the scheduled rounds.

At 106 pounds, Trenton High School’s Jacob White is finding early varsity success as a freshman:

Coach Bacon also spoke glowingly about the performances of Hughs and Rongey:

Top Trenton results from the B Pool included Max Baker 3-0 at 120 pounds, Spencer Steih 3-0 at 157 pounds, Aiden Kempton 2-0 at 215 pounds, Cooper Houser winning the lone match he wrestled at 126 pounds, while Walter Olmstead 2-1 at 150 pounds.

Trenton’s only competitor in the girls tournament, junior Avery Clark, won both of her matches at 140 pounds.  Coach Bacon described her as one of the toughest and most accomplished wrestlers in her weight class in the state of Missouri.
