Trenton High School’s Werthen Gass opened her senior season in strong fashion, battling a windy and challenging Mozingo Golf Course to a third place score of 18-hole 91 on Monday, in the Maryville Best Ball Tournament.  Maci Henson and Oakley Madden also made the trip for the Lady Bulldogs, playing “together in the best ball format”.

Stanberry won the tournament by one stroke over Maryville, with the Lady Bulldogs shooting 174 to the ‘Hounds 175.  Chillicothe, led by a fifth place 95 from Hallie Jones, finished in third place, with a score of 185.

Trenton, as a team, finished in sixth place with 203.  Lady Bulldog players Oakley Madden and Maci Henson, according to Coach Travis Mullenix, “played best ball together”, on a challenging course that “with the wind, made it brutal at times”.  Mozingo will host the state tournament in October.

Other team scores from Monday were:

4. Lafayette – 192

5. Tarkio – 201

7. Cameron – 211

8. Benton – 213

9. Rock Port – 217

10. Gallatin – 223

11. Savannah -225

Trenton’s home opener at Riverside Country Club, set for Tuesday afternoon, was stopped by the late afternoon thunderstorm activity that rumbled through Grundy County.  According to Coach Travis Mullenix, a couple of the girls had completed eight holes, with the others “approaching the midway point”, when first lightning, and then, heavy rain, halted the day’s proceedings without final scores able to be recorded.
